You wouldn't want the contextual or background information to overwhelm the core story. But using, the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ can facilitate the discovery of meaningful information...
Details of bbc.co.uk's for 2007/08 have been released after an FOI reguest .

So if they want to read background info, they may jump off part-way through the story, then jump back.
The assumption also seems to be made that people must WANT to read all of the story: what if only part of it is relevant? They may well then want to jump off to a link focussing on that particular part.
Once you've finished trialling the Apture thing, why not trial "normal" links too?
(NB I do like the open dialogue, though: this is one thing, along with the ability to listen to negative feedback that I feel the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ has improved on in the last few years.)

My initial impressions were:
1) it looked a bit "odd" for some reason; didn't fit in with the rest of the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ site
2) it seemed to be fairly easy to use/understand
3) I was still interested in seeing it used more to decide whether I actually liked it or not.
So after the initial excitement and a few initial questions, I then started thinking about how a non-techie would feel about them. Overall there are some concerns I have about confusion over click versus rollover (I still see people clicking both mouse buttons because they can't remember which one does which), and a few issues over how this will actually be used in the future. And it needs to look less "proprietry".
So, overall, I'm stiill unsure and want to try it more, but am stilled piqued by it.
Lets continue to watch this space!
