Command words
The questions used in the portfolio will test your knowledge and understanding in different ways.
In each question, there is a command word.
There are many different command words. Each command word is like a different shape of lock.
You must understand the command word in order to shape your answer into the right key to open the lock.
Doing this will allow you to unlock the door to picking up marks.
The National 5 course contains five different types of command words meaning your knowledge can be tested in five different ways:
- Identify
- Describe
- Justify
- Explain
- Evaluate
These command words are placed on a continuum of increasing complexity from 'identify' through to 'evaluate'; as you go down the list, they gradually test your higher order thinking skills more.
