"50:50 is powerful because it is a simple way of using data to deliver change. While there’s always more to do, I am very pleased to see that fair representation has improved significantly at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ."
Our Fifth 50:50 Challenge
This is the fifth year of published results from the 50:50 Equality Project, the international benchmarking scheme in diversity in content which started in the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ newsroom. We’re pleased to announce that 56% of teams across News, Content and Nations taking part achieved 50% women in their content in March. Around 290 teams are now also measuring ethnicity and disability representation, cementing further progress on their targets in this area.
Using the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ’s 50:50 framework, currently over 150 External organisations now also use the 50:50 methodology, including other public broadcasters, universities and commercial companies. This year 64 of them shared their data for the second time, 36% achieved 50% of women in their content in March, with 75% improving from their starting point
We look forward to continuing the project to support the creation of media content that fairly represents the world we live in.
