1994: UK's first lottery draw

The UK’s first ever lottery draw took place on 19 November 1994.

Money raised from tickets was to fund the arts, sports, charities, national heritage and upcoming millennium celebrations.

Around seven million tickets were sold within 12 hours of the launch by Prime Minister John Major.

Seven jackpot winners got around Β£800,000 each in the first draw.
