1962: Paris air crash

One hundred and thirty people died in a plane crash as their flight took off from Orly Airport in Paris on 3 June 1962.

The crash was the worst ever recorded air disaster involving one aircraft at the time.

The Air France Boeing 707 had been headed for Atlanta, Georgia. Many of the 122 passengers were members of the Atlanta Art Association, who were returning home after a trip to visit European art.
