1998: Nasa discovers ice on the Moon

NASA announces in March 1998 that it had discovered water ice on the Moon.

The ice was detected by the US space agency's orbiter Lunar Prospector, launched at the beginning of the year with a mission to map the Moon's surface.

The discovery was thought by some space scientists to have increased the prospects of colonising the Moon as a base for people to live.

This Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ News report was broadcast on 5 March 1998.
