1975: First Britons climb Mount Everest

The first Britons to scale Mount Everest reach the summit 24 September 1975.

Dougal Haston and Doug Scott arrive at the mountain’s peak 33 days after establishing their base camp.

The men use the previously unclimbed south-west face of the mountain, which was regarded as one of the most difficult challenges in mountaineering.
