1994: First women priests ordained

The Church of England ordains its first women priests in March 1994.

Thirty two deaconesses are ordained at Bristol Cathedral in a service led by Bishop Barry Rogerson.

Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey appeals for church unity, amid continuing objections by some traditionalists.
