Four members of the British Expeditionary Force share their experiences of being on the frontline as the Germans broke through. The first two describe close encounters with advancing German tanks and the third recalls how he escaped capture. The fourth speaker, who was stationed with a field ambulance on the Belgian border, tells of surviving German bombs (along with an adopted feline 'mascot') and living off the land in the French countryside, before arriving at Dunkirk to find many casualties.
