Members of the forces and ordinary citizens recall their roles in the mass evacuation from Dunkirk.

It features contributions from soldiers who fought to defend Boulogne and Calais "to the last", survivors of bombed boats the Granade and the Crested Eagle and doctors who stayed behind and faced capture to tend to the wounded. There is also an account of a theatre producer and a City gent in a bowler hat who helped with the operation. Finally, General Von Senger und Etterlin gives his explanation for why Hitler did not send in the Panzers.
