As the world comes to terms with the loss of Winston Churchill, Tonight hears from the financier and philanthropist Bernard Baruch, who was described by Churchill as his oldest friend. He recalls his first meeting with Churchill at the Paris Conference after World War One and asserts that nothing was ever dull when Winston was around.
Bernard Baruch (on the right of the picture) was born in South Carolina in 1870 and had made a fortune on the New York Stock Exchange before he was 30. He served as a presidential adviser throughout both world wars. During World War Two he consulted on economic issues and developed a close friendship with both President Franklin D Roosevelt and Winston Churchill (left and centre of the picture).
