2000: Ford leaves Dagenham after 70 years

Ford announces the end of car production at its Dagenham plant after more than 70 years.

The plant, one of Europe’s first major car assembly sites, was regarded as a focal point of the UK car industry.

Production will move from Dagenham to Ford’s German factory in Cologne, which will provide more flexibility by having a second assembly line.
