1949: Tin mines reopen

Cornish tin mines were reopened in September 1949.

Tin mining had existed in Cornwall since the Bronze Age, but government control of tin during World War 2 dampened the industry.

With the end of government bulk buying, mines were reopened and the tin industry was set to return to a free market.
