Five young people have shot a short film about British hurdler and Olympic hopeful Zara Hohn, and now they need to edit it.

Working with filmmaker Barry J Gibb, they learn how shots come together in an edit, using interview, cutaways and music to tell the story.

Focusing on preparation, structure and the importance of having a beginning, middle and end, they explore the various layers that combine to form a short narrative.

Teacher Notes

This clip can be used to demonstrate editing steps before pupils undertake practical work.

Ask students to list the steps they would undertake to edit a film, from shooting to the initial broadcast to the public.

Practise editing selected clips, with reference to the steps students have identified.
