A short film which explores how visual affects and computer animation professionals utilise hardware and programming capabilities of computers to create stunning affects in films.

An explanation is also provided of the processes that programmers take in breaking down observations of the real world into the rules of nature, for example, physics and chemistry.

They demonstrate how they use this understanding to programme these rules to develop accurate simulations, as well as paying careful consideration to the balance needed between stylised creativity and nature.

Teacher Notes

A short clip which highlights the importance of computer programming and the need for a logical, scientific approach to visual effects and games design.

The clip introduces the concept of abstraction in an accessible way and would be a significant motivational tool at the beginning of a topic on computer programming.

Curriculum Notes

This clip will be relevant for teaching Computer Science for KS3, KS4 and GCSE and appears in OCR, Edexcel, AQA, WJEC in England and Wales, and SQA National 4, 5 and Higher in Scotland.
