Can you sum up the project?

We love weird and wonderful facts. We also like the bizarre bits of archive the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ has. What if we tried to combine the two and not take ourselves to seriously in the process?

We’ve tried to take random bits of content and connect them using the best facts we could find and illustrate them with playful content whilst looking at they way we might build an interface that feels right.

How was it created?

We’ve started gathering facts that made us laugh or think. Then we looked for the words and themes that we could us to connect them and summed them up in the questions you see in the app. After that we trawled the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Archive to find the most curious bits of archive we had.

In the meantime we started looking at how we could condense content to be short enough to set in a simple card so you could just swipe your way through and got on with designing and building the website.

How was it built?

We quickly got a prototype up and running so we could test the gestures  and the way you moved through the content.  Then we started to look at the ways we would embed the different types of content. Finally we moved on to putting the bells and whistles on; animation, interaction feedback and interface.

Any challenges and what were the solutions?

Editorially we had the most challenges. You’d be surprised how hard it is to pull together facts that are both interesting and interconnected as well as making sure that there is some content related to them that works.

What do you hope to learn from it being on Taster?

Whether something more irreverent in tone is enjoyed.

If a snackable daily dose of interesting facts is something people are in to even if we do need more work on how they come together.

If any of the archive we picked tickles someone’s fancy.

What next?

We are going to continue to refine the interactive format and try it with other content. Social platforms have already born out that this format works as they have developed things that are similar to this.
