Valtteri Bottas is the next to have a good look around the circuit. But he's fine. And good to continue.

While these conditions are looking good for Ferrari, it could be a long weekend for Williams, with a potential grid-place penalty already looming for George Russell.

Nicholas Latifi is 18th, 12 seconds off the lead, with George Russell last and a whopping 22 seconds adrift. Kimi Raikkonen is the man in the middle.

It's still a Ferrari one-two but now Charles Leclerc is the quickest with a 1:35.507.

Lewis Hamilton has got himself out on track and is up to eighth as it stands.

The times are still dropping and it's just like old times as Ferrari have a one-two at the moment.

Sebastian Vettel leads the way with a 1:36.085, with Charles Leclerc 0.583 seconds behind.

Everyone is expecting this track to improve later on, if not we could have a jumbled up qualifying tomorrow.

There is something wrong with the brakes

The drivers had been looking forward to venturing out on to the Istanbul Park track, as it has quite a reputation from its previous life on the F1 calendar, especially the quadruple apex Turn Eight.

But they won't be enjoying this - the circuit has been resurfaced and it is very low on grip - Max Verstappen said it is "like driving on ice" and Charles Leclerc slid into the bollard marking the pit lane entry.

This often happens with new asphalt - the oils and so on in the asphalt are still seeping out. It's likely to be low grip all weekend, but the more running happens, the better it will be.

A lot of the drivers have done 13 laps or so but still nothing close to a representable pace.

The times are getting faster, although still nowhere near as expected.

When you have 10 seconds separating the top 10 you know it's not been the best of sessions.

Carlos Sainz's McLaren has come to a halt by the side of the track and he says over the radio that it's a problem with the steering.

We are so far away from decent times, we're more than 10 seconds off the pole time from 2011. None of this is meaningful. If Hamilton does miss this one, he's not missing a lot.

With it being so unrepresentative and slippery, Lewis Hamilton has not set a time so far. He's the only one. There's nothing wrong with his car, he just doesn't fancy it.

Everyone of the current top 10 is on the hards, apart from Ocon who is on the medium tyres.

Deaglan McArdle: F1 has lost a lot financially this year. So expanding next year will help alleviate the losses. Do I agree with 23 races? No. Can I accept it for a year? Probably. But I do hope its a one off.

Robert Bruce: Yet another absolutely cracking circuit being revisited. Such a shame it’ll be back to featureless autodroooooones next year.

The times at the moment are absolutely meaningless, but it is nice to be fast on a track.

Right, we're now having loads of times on the board, still nowhere near what is expected, but Max Verstappen has now moved to the top thanks to a 1:41.741.

That's 1.268 seconds better than Valtteri Bottas with Charles Leclerc third and Sebastian Vettel. fourth.
