Oval Invincibles cruised into the knockout stages of The Hundred with a crushing nine-wicket win over London Spirit at Lord's.

Mady Villiers took 4-12 in an outstanding spell of bowling as Spirit were bowled out for just 80 - the third lowest total in the women's Hundred.

Amelia Kerr top-scored with 31 for Spirit but Charlie Dean, with 18, was the only other batter to reach double figures.

In reply, Invincibles openers Lauren Winfield-Hill and Suzie Bates added 55 for the first wicket to set the platform for victory.

Bates was caught behind for 31 but Winfield-Hill finished 44 not out as Invincibles reached their target with 42 balls to spare.

They join Southern Brave in securing a place in the the knockout stage.

The Invincibles remain second in the table, a place below the Brave, but could still pip them to top spot and in doing so take a direct route into the final.

    • Eva Gray and Shabnim Ismail were outshone by Villiers but bowled brilliantly to take two wickets each.
    • Grace Scrivens took the only Invincibles wicket to fall, having Suzie Bates smartly caught behind by Mooney.

    What's next?

    • With one game each remaining in the group stages, London Spirit take on Birmingham Phoenix on Tuesday 30 August while Oval Invincibles continue their quest to finish top of the table as they take on Manchester Originals on Wednesday 31 August.

Oval Invincibles captain Dane van Niekerk on Sky Sports: "For some reason we love winning at Lord's! It's always so special to play here at this famous ground and it gets the team up and about, especially the young ones.

"I'm really proud of the way the team carried themselves because there were some nerves out there.

"Mady has been bowling really well in the nets and I felt she's been unlucky in the tournament so far. Sometimes as a bowler you can feel like things aren't going your way but we know what she can do.

"She is a big match player and that was a great way for her to get some confidence.

"Beth Mooney is a brilliant player. I can't tell you how you get her out but I'm glad she did! But we wanted that match-up with the off-spin bowling to her, so that does make it a little bit easier.

"Our opening batters are getting us into great positions, they understand each other very well and the run rate takes care of itself when they are playing together."

A reminder that we have still got the men's game to come. There is just going to be a bit of a wait because the Oval Invincibles won this one so quickly!

  4. 'When I'm bowling well I just want the ball'published at 17:43 British Summer Time 27 August 2022

Match hero Mady Villiers, who took 4-12, speaking to Sky Sports: "It came out nice today. It was just a good day all round.

"Maybe in the last few games I've overcomplicated things. I stripped it back today and tried to bowl my best ball in the power play. It worked out well for me.

"The pitch looked like a belter. I just needed to bowl my best ball. Changing pace was also key.

"I've never bowled 10 balls in a row twice. I thought I'd make the most of it. When I'm bowling well I just want the ball."

The Invincibles can plan for the latter stages of the tournament while London Spirit sink to the bottom of the standings.

Lauren Winfield-Hill finished unbeaten on 44 from 28 balls after Mady Villiers had taken 4-12 in her 20 balls.

Wins do not get more comprehensive than that.

That's a proper thrashing. Winning with 42 balls to spare is just incredible.

The Invincibles looked a much better start. They came out and looked really professional.

It's been a mauling. They win with almost half their innings to spare.

The crowd here at Lord's half quite a long wait now. An hour-and-a-half until the next match.

This game was supposed to finish well after six o'clock.

Lauren Winfield-Hill seals a thumping win in style - a reverse-sweep for four!

Only one wicket down and with 42 balls to spare, the Invincibles complete a humiliation of their city rivals, London Spirit.

In doing so, they also book themselves a place in the Eliminator. This is if they aren't able to overhaul Southern Brave to go directly to the final.

Make that one more hit. Winfield-Hill swings the ball away through mid-wicket for four more.

After a slow passage of play, Lauren Winfield-Hill decides it is time to get this thing done.

She pulls Schutt away powerfully for four and then clears extra cover next ball for another boundary.

The end is night for London Spirit.

Good again from Dean as she gets through another five. Capsey is all the way across her stumps to the last of them, showing all three, as she targets the leg side.

She has to settle for a single though, pushed firmly to take us to the halfway stage of the chase.

Net run rate can become so crucial. If you've got an opportunity like this you must try and finish the game off as quickly as possible.

  18. Invincibles 60-1published at 55 balls left

Another very tidy set from Dean. The England off-spinner keeps Capsey and Winfield-Hill to just three singles between them.

Alice Capsey is out to join Winfield-Hill in the middle. I can't imagine the teenager will want to drag this out for much longer.
