AFC Fylde's National League game with Southend United has been postponed after a train carrying the visitors north broke down.

The train was due to arrive in Preston at 12:39 BST but suffered a power failure en route.

an "evacuation train" was being organised by Avanti West Coast but would take the Southend squad and staff back to London.

"It is currently unclear when the evacuation train will arrive and so a decision has been made to postpone the game," the statement continued.

"We apologise to our supporters for the inconvenience caused. For those who already in Fylde, we have put some money behind the supporters' bar at the stadium - please have a beer on us."

The train left London at 10:18 BST ahead of a 15:00 kick-off at Fylde's Mill Farm stadium. The exact location of where the train broke down has not been revealed.

No date as yet been agreed for a rearranged fixture.

Fylde are next in action with a home game against Yeovil Town on 7 September, when Southend will again travel to the north west to take on Oldham Athletic.
