How do I subscribe to a podcast or programme?

There are several ways of subscribing to a podcast or programme depending on the device you're using. Click on the links to find the advice that best suits you:Ìý

Subscribe on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Sounds

Subscribing on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Sounds means you'll see a personalised feed of your favourite podcasts and programmes in My Sounds. You will need to download episodes individually.Ìý

  • On the website

    Find the programme you want to subscribe to by searching or byÌýchoosing from the homepage, categories or schedules. Click ³§³Ü²ú²õ³¦°ù¾±²ú±ðÌýat the top of the episodes list.

    You can also subscribe directly from the playback screen on any episode. Start playing the episode or programme, then clickÌý³§³Ü²ú²õ³¦°ù¾±²ú±ðÌýat the bottom right corner of the playback bar.

  • On the mobile/tablet app

    You can subscribe to a programme from either an individual episode, or on the programme page. Just tap Subscribe. You'll find the programme in the Subscribed section of My Sounds.Ìý

  • On the TV app

    Click into the programme, then click Subscribe at the top.ÌýYou'll find the programme in the Subscribed section of My Sounds.

Subscribe on a computer using an RSS feed

You can subscribe to a podcast by using an RSS feed. RSS feeds allow you to stay updated when something new, like a podcast, becomes available.

To be able to subscribe, your browser will need to be able to support RSS feeds. Many browsers will already be able to support RSS feeds by default, or you can chooseÌýan RSS extension. This is essentially an extra piece of software that can be easily added to the browser. You can find an RSS extension to suit you in your browser Settings > Extensions and searchingÌýfor RSS,Ìýor online by searching forÌýRSSÌý+ 'browser name'Ìý

  • To subscribe to an RSS feed, first, head to the programme website for the podcast you'd like to subscribe to. To find the programme website, start playing an episode of the podcast you're interested in. Underneath the playback window, you'll see Programme Website

  • Click into the Podcasts tab* then click on RSS

  • Once you've done this, your RSS extension willÌýgive you the option to subscribe to the feed either directly on the browser, or using a service of your choice

  • You can then find your subscribed RSS feeds by clicking on the extension

The process may differ depending on the browser, extension and service that you choose.


*If the podcast you've chosen doesn't have a PodcastÌýtab, it's likely this is a Â鶹ԼÅÄ Sounds Exclusive podcast, meaning it can only be downloaded using the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Sounds app for mobile or tablet.ÌýIn this caseÌýit won't have an RSS feed but can still be streamed on the website, or downloaded via the app.


Subscribe on a computer using podcast software

If you've got podcast software installed on your computer (such as iTunes, Juice or gPodder) you can use the URL for the podcast feed to subscribe to your chosen podcast.

  • Find the podcast you'd like to subscribe to on the Â鶹ԼÅÄÌýSounds website
  • Head to the programme website for the podcast you'd like to subscribe to. To find the programme website, start playing an episode of the podcast you're interested in. Underneath the playback window, you'll see Programme Website.
  • Click on the Podcast tab, thenÌýselect RSSÌýon the top right
  • Copy the URL from the page you're taken to
  • Paste that URL into the feed in the podcast software on your computer

Subscribe on an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch

You can subscribe to podcasts on the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Sounds app. Or, on iOS devices, you can install a podcast app or use Apple's built-in Podcasts app which can be set to download episodes (you can set a limit to the amount you wish to automatically download) in the app's settings.

  • On the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Sounds website, find the podcast you'd like to subscribe to (to find the programme website, start playing an episode and click 'Programme Website' underneath the playback screen.)
  • Click onÌýPodcastÌýon the programme website then, tap RSS
  • If you have the Podcasts app installed on your device, this will automatically open in the app

Alternatively, open the Podcasts app on your iOS device and search for the Â鶹ԼÅÄ podcast you'd like to subscribe to.

Subscribe on an Amazon Fire or Android device

You can subscribe to podcasts on the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Sounds app. Otherwise, you can install a podcast app on your device. Search 'Podcast' in the Google Play Store or Amazon Appstore to find a podcast subscription app. Most podcast apps have a setting which allows podcasts to download automatically. Then:

  • On the Â鶹ԼÅÄ Sounds website, find the podcast you'd like to subscribe to (to find the programme website, start playing an episode and click 'Programme Website' underneath the playback screen.)
  • Click onÌýPodcastÌýon the programme website then, tap RSS
  • Your device will show you which app or apps you can use to start your podcast subscription - simply choose the app you want to use

Alternatively, open the podcast app you've installed and search for the Â鶹ԼÅÄ podcast you'd like to subscribe to.ÌýPlease note that the Google Podcast app is not supported.
