Research & Development

As part of our research on short-form news stories targeted at young audiences, we have developed a functional prototype.

Our ambition was to have a fully working prototype to test with our target audience simulating real-life scenario and evaluating if the concept would be fit for purpose.

The concept emerged during a creative workshop among few other ideas. The user experience for each concept was sketched out or narrated as a walkthrough with very high-level scenario. This allowed us to get a sense of the core proposition, prioritise the most relevant and subsequently, consolidate them with storyboards to a satisfactory level to be shown to sample target audience for initial validation/feedback.

Although all propositions were well received, users clearly indicated Snack News - news streams as short-form videos with short titles - the most desirable.

Our ambition was to have a fully working prototype to test with our target audience. From the initial sketch and storyboarding we were able to formulate a minimum viable product. We wanted the prototype to be simple and functional, so our first job was to look at the interaction patterns and produce wireframes. We chose the Android platform to develop this prototype and the assets used to populate the mobile application with content were sourced from Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ News on Instagram and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ 60 second news. The functional prototype was tested with another sample of our target group. The objective was to gather feedback on the design patterns, video content and overall mobile experience of our proposition.

The next iteration of this prototype would take into account feedback from user testing and possible integration with the News Rig prototype is developing as a way to push video packages into the app.
