Atomised News

Inga and Mohamed, journalists from the News team, worked with the Atomised News team (Barbara, Anthony, Tom and Tristan) to create two stories that will be available in the Atomised News prototypes. The prototypes triggered interesting conversations and a lot of interest at the recent News Labs family day. Next, the team plans informal user testing, iterating the prototype and conducting a more formal user trial at the end of April.

The Design Museum’s Designs of the year 2015 exhibition, featuring the Walls have eyes installation by Libby, Jasmine and Andrew N. opened to public on Wednesday. The team has also written . See .

Sentiment analysis

Peter, our latest Graduate Trainee, Andrew M. and Chris Newell joined the Analytics Services team in Cardiff for a hack day to explore requirements and initial ideas that will drive the work on sentiment analysis of social network activity related to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ content. Peter’s work on sentiment analysis will build on , which monitored the sentiment of Twitter activity directed at performers during the Eurovision Song Contest. Peter's work will be wider in scope and he’ll be working closely with the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ's Analytics Services team in Cardiff.

Web standards

As part of his work in the Chris Needham reviewed the proposed to evaluate how it integrates with the video and audio elements in HTML5, and how it relates to other W3C work, such as the and specifications.

Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Front

The team has been working on a prototype for the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Front radio drama, which will enable users to be able to explore stories, characters and places. As Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Front has a complex legacy of characters, it can be quite hard to understand and catch up with the story for a new listener. Currently, the team is defining the structure of the platform and its main information architecture and content strategy.

UCLIC’s Design Experience module

For the second time, Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ R&D was chosen by to brief the Human-computer Interaction MSc students for their Design Experience 2 module. On Monday 16th, Malin, Andrew N. and Jiri kicked off the module and set briefs that range from exploration of atomized news content to new contextual storytelling experiences and connected objects. Over the course of two weeks, the groups will conduct several rounds of research and draw insights that will inspire a solution that will then be prototyped, user-trialed and iterated. The student groups will present the outcomes of the module on Friday 27th March.
