On why the elderly in care no longer enjoy their freedomÌý
Melanie Reid's mother Betty was 87 years old and suffering from dementia when she walked out of her Scottish care home in the middle of the night. With temperatures plummeting to minus five degrees, she died in the garden of the home.
Melanie says staff were devastated by what happened to her mother and expected her to sue - but she refused. She's convinced her mother knew what she was doing and rather than simply escaping, consciously decided to take her own life.
Melanie tells Jenni why the blame culture and over-protectiveness of elderly people in care means they can no longer enjoy any degree of freedom.
