What impact will the long-awaited divorce laws have on Chilean women?
Chile has just passed its first divorce laws - the last of the Americas to do so.ÌýÌýThe courts are bracing themselves for a flood of applications from couples who, up until now, have been locked into unhappy or violent marriages for decades. The rich and well connected have usually been able to get around the situation, but ordinary Chilean women have often found themselves in a legal and financial tangle if a marriage has broken down, with little or no protection for their or their children's future.
