Latvian women 16 March 2010
Why are they so successful in the workforce and in public life?

In Latvia 41% of the country's managers are women, theÌýhighest proportion of female managers in the EU. In her book, 'Profiting from Diversity', Gloria Moss says that Latvian women simply don’t understand the concept of ‘the glass ceiling’. Many of the country’s top jobs are held by women and the popular ex-President - Vaira VÄ«Ä·e-Freiberga - put herself up as a candidate for the EU president’s job last year. To take a look at the success enjoyed by Latvian women, Jane is joined by Gloria Moss, Senior Lecturer in Human Resources at Buckinghamshire New University, and by the Counsellor for Economic and Commercial Affaires at the Latvian Embassy in London, Indra Freiberga, who is also the daughter of Vaira VÄ«Ä·e-Freiberga.

Profiting from Diversity [The Business Advantages and the Obstacles to Achieving Diversity], edited by Gloria Moss, is published by Palgrave MacMillan. [Additional material on Latvia by David Farnhanm and Caryn Cook] ISBN: 978-0-230-51616-8
