Ìý San Franciscan women 04 May 2004 Ìý
No American city has as many women in influential jobs asÌýSan Francisco. Why?

On 1 JanuaryÌýthis year Gavin Newsom was inaugurated as the new Mayor of San Francisco. Within a few weeks he had embroiled himself in controversy.

First he allowed same sex marriages, and then, shock horror, he appointed women to almost every key public office. No American city has ever had so many women in seriously influential positions such as finance, prosecutions and even police and fire.

Maggie Shiels reports from San Francisco.
