Ìý Women walking to South Pole 24 December 2003 Ìý
Rosie Stancer and Fiona Thornewell are walking separately and unaided to the South Pole.

Rosie Stancer, perched amid the ice, joins Jenni on a satellite phone, to tell her how excited she's getting at the prospect of a rare Christmas call to her family.

But Fiona Thornewell's satellite phone isn't working and her husband Mike joins Jenni to talk about how he and his family are feeling about a Christmas without contact with her.

Psychologist Carol Martin Sperry also joins them to talk about the difficulties in coping without a partner in the festive season.

Woman's Hour: Interview with Fiona Thornewell
