Ìý Veils Friday 6 June 2003 Ìý
Photograph by Marc Garanger, Femmes Algeriennes (Algerian Women), photograph 1960
The veiling of women has been just another part of many Middle Eastern and North African cultures for centuries, but it has exerted a particular fascination on Western observers who have found it both alluring and threatening.

Veil is a major touring exhibition of work by artists who are exploring the veil and its power as a symbol in contemporary culture.
Artists Jananne Al-Ani and Ghazel join Sheila to talk about the exhibition and the difficulty of breaking down Western preconceptions about the veil.
Veil exhibition is at the Institute of International Visual Arts, 6-8 Rivington Street, London EC2 from 3 June 2003.
