Ìý Designer Babies Friday 9 August 2002 Ìý
Last week the Government body that regulates fertility treatments told Michelle and Jayson Whitaker that they couldn't use IVF technology to have a child that could help provide a cure for their sick son.

The Whitakers will tell us about their life since the decision, and their plans to appeal. We'll also hear from another couple who used the new technology to have a healthy family, after the trauma of losing two babies to genetic disease.
Martha we will be joined to debate the moral issues surrounding so-called 'designer babies' with Professor Peter Braude of Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital, Dr Mohammed Taranissi, doctor to the Whitakers, Baroness Warnock and Josephine Quintavalle from the pressure group Comment on Reproductive Ethics.
