What benefits do talking therapies offer those in the early stages of diseases like Alzheimers ?
There are currently around 700,000 people in the UK diagnosed with dementia. And with an ageing population by 2025 this will have reached over a million. Being newly diagnosed with dementia can be frightening and confusing. Very few people with dementia are given the opportunity to receive professional counselling. Yet some professionals believe that counselling can be a valuable form of support. Dementia counsellor, Danuta Lipinska and Ruth Sunderland from the Alzheimer’s Society join Jenni to discuss the impact of talking therapies in the early stages of dementia.
'Person Centred Counselling for People with Dementia: ÌýMaking Sense of Self 'by Danuta Lipinska is published by JKP Publications, ÌýISBN: 978-1-84310-978-5.
