Thea Musgrave on Female Maestros 21 Feb 2008
Thea Musgrave
Encouraging young female composers as sheÌýcelebrates her 80th birthday

This Saturday will see the world premiere of Points of View, the latest work by Scottish composer Thea Musgrave and a piece commissioned to celebrate her 80th birthday. The work is just the latest in a prolific career that’s seen her music performed by orchestras around the world. But as a female composer in the world of classical music, Thea Musgrave is still a minority and the lack of female talent entering the discipline has prompted one orchestra to work with schoolgirls in Manchester, in order to encourage them to consider studying composition beyond their GCSEs.
