Women and Binge Drinking 20th Oct 2009
Young women who have been working to find a solution to binge drinking
Women finding solutions

According to new research, someÌý90,000 people could die as a result of their drinking over the next ten years. Last week a coroner warned of the dangers of binge drinking after the death of a talented schoolgirl who is believed to have drunk up to half a litre of vodka at a party. The YWCA isÌýa charity which works with young disadvantaged women. It isÌýconcerned about the increase in the number of reportsÌýof young women getting out of control after drinking alcoholÌýandÌýhas organised a conference to consider what can be done to tackle this problem. Reporter Nicky Barranger talks to some young women in Northampton about theirÌýexperiences of binge drinking. To discuss possible solutions, Jane is then joined by Sarah Payne, Chief Executive of the YWCA andÌýProfessor Ian Gilmore, President of the Royal College of Physicians andÌýChair of their Alcohol Committee.

Women Finding Solutions - Binge drinking Conference takes place on Wednesday 21st OctoberÌýin London
