Are children better off in care than with vulnerable parents?

A newÌýstyle of residential care homes for children is being introduced in the UK, which it is said couldÌýimprove the chances of young people taken into care. They are based on a system used successfully on the continent, whereÌýin Denmark for example sixty percentÌýof care leavers go on to higher education, compared to six percentÌýhere.Ìý Judy Merry visits Kinder House, one of the new residential care homes just opened inÌýWallasey, Cheshire.ÌýIn the light of a series of shocking cases of abuse such as the death of Baby Peter. Is this model of care the answer to breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect? JenniÌýwill be discussing the issues with Martin Narey, Chief Executive of Barnardo's and Dawn Howley, care leaver and volunteer with Kids Company.
