Programme 3. Wednesday 23 February, 15.45-16.00

It's late June and on the isle of Hoy, a young sea eagle stretches his chocolate coloured wings. At 10 weeks old, he'll soon be ready to leave the safety of his nest high up on the sea cliff.

On the isle of Mull, two young sea eagle chicks squabble over food in their nest. The female is already larger than her brother, and much more precocious. Sibling rivalry whilst rare, is not unknown.

Meanwhile, one of their parents is hunting for food over a nearby loch. He mobs an osprey, carrying a fish in its claws. Out at sea, another sea eagle takes advantage of a hole in a net to acquire his fishy meal.

Further south in the oak woodland, a single young chick leaves his nest for the first time. He narrowly escapes death whenÌýa golden eagle swoops by.

In the conifer forest, our female chick also leaves her nest for the first time. Her brother is not so lucky. He has not survived her bullying tactics and lies dead in the nest surrounded by a halo of flies.

Back on the isle of Hoy, the young chick tumbles out of his sea cliff nest whilst stretching his wings. Miraculously, he does not perish on the rocks below, but is swept out to sea and uses all his strength to struggle back to land.
