Track: Widaa Artist: Magida Al Roumi Music: Palestinian Chosen by: Adel Shahin (Bristol)
ÌýÌýListen to Adel Shahin and hear the track Widaa by Magida Al Roumi (Local cassette, 1977)
I come from the Middle East - from Palestine, Jerusalem. I came to this country in 1987. I started working in a restaurant in Park Street, and my qualification is in Hotel Management. I worked there for a while and they didn’t pay me very well, so I started working as a Taxi driver. I found it a bit easier but now it is getting harder - with all the traffic in Bristol, you can’t get anywhere, there is too much stress in it. It’s very hard to deal with the public as well, So I try to work in the night-time which is a bit easier. We’ve got used to it but its not its very good for the family. You can’t spend much time with your kids and your wife - you are talking about 12 hours every day - but at the end of the day you have to work to earn a living and to pay the bills.
The music I like actually is the 60’s the 70’s I like rock and roll music. When I get bored I listen to some Arab music. My favourite music is classical music - it’s all about memories and history and hard relationships - and relaxing music. This is what its about.
