Barakina and Trina South

Rapper and producer Barakina talks about Niger's rising music scene, and Zambian star Trina South reveals how a promise made to her late mother gave her the drive to succeed.

Barakina headlines as TIA makes its first ever trip to Niger. He’s a rapper and producer hoping to turbo-charge and drive forward the country’s music scene, which he says is just at the beginning of its journey. He’s certainly been busy, having put out two albums in two years, tackling tough subjects including the barriers put up by religion, environmental issues and the pandemic. He says Africa has become trapped by such problems, but hard work and love can set it free.

Trina South is a rapper, singer, songwriter and actress from Zambia. Her talents have been spotted by none other than Mr Eazi, who has been mentoring her as part of his emPawa programme. Trina grew up in the ghetto and tells TIA why a promise made to her mother before her death has given her the drive and determination to succeed.
