Innoss B is only 23 but he’s already been a star for a decade. At twelve years old, this young boy from Goma, in the troubled eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, won a talent contest and was taken to the USA by Akon, the highly successful Senegalese-American musician and entrepreneur.
He’s been on the rise ever since, and the remix of his 2019 release Yope featuring Diamond Platinumz has been a massive hit, with a staggering 120 million views on YouTube at the time of writing.
Innoss B talks to Ata Ahli Ahebla about the Yope collaboration, working with Akon, and why it’s high time the DRC government took responsibility for the ongoing security issues in his home region.
Ata Ahli Ahebla also presents his pick of the new African music releases in an all-Francophone 10 in 10.
