Goldman Boss Blankfein Reportedly Met 1MDB Financier
The investigation into the misuse of the state investment fund 1MDB intensifies
Since Malaysia's former prime minister, Najib Razak, was defeated in elections earlier this year, the investigation into the misuse of the state investment fund 1MDB has gone into overdrive. It's a $2.7bn scandal. Now, the Financial Times and Bloomberg are reporting that the former Goldman boss Lloyd Blankfein is the senior executive identified in court papers as having met 1MDB financier Jho Low in 2009. Goldman itself has not commented. Tom Wright, co-author of Billion Dollar Whale, the book about the scandal, tells us what he makes of the news. We hear from Lisbon where the Web Summit is taking place and millions of people in Asia are getting ready the world's largest shopping event. Presenter Roger Hearing is joined by Andy Xie, an independent economist in Hong Kong, and Varshini Prakash, campaigner and communications director of the Sunrise environmental movement in Washington.
