Stacey the wombat
Stacey is a bare nosed wombat and was found wandering by the side of the road, after her mum was killed by a car.
Stacey was just 4 and a half months old when she was rescued and still lived in her mother’s pouch. What she needed in order to survive and grow up successfully was the companionship of another wombat. At just 800g she was paired up with one, but she was bullied and they had to be seperated.
Stacy has been taken on by wildlife carer , living in Sue’s living room. Sue formed a strong bond with Stacey. Stacey required several bottle feeds a-day and almost constant play time and attention. Despite her previous experience of being paired witha wombat, it was in Stacey’s best interest to be paired up again, so she was gradually introduced to another orphan, Heidi.
Stacey progressed well and was finally able to move out of Sue’s house and start to become independent, in anticipation of her release.
