'The Seed of the Sacred Fig' - the Cannes winner made in secret in Iran
It was a film made in secret in Iran - and its director, Mohammad Rasoulof, fled the country earlier this year after being sentenced to eight years in prison and flogging.
'The Seed of the Sacred Fig' is the story of a newly promoted judge Iman, who grapples with paranoia about the women in his family amid political unrest.. The film also has extensive footage of the 'Women Life Freedom' protests in Iran that started in September 2022 over the death of a young woman in police custody. It went on to receive a special prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
