German cinema classics: The Blue Angel - the film that made Marlene Dietrich
On the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall, Talking Movies presenter Tom Brook looks back at the history of German cinema and visits the historic Babelsber Film Studio.
In the 1920s it was a huge production centre and the envy of filmmakers from all over Europe.
It’s also where Germany’s legendary actor, Marlene Dietrich, shot the classic film The Blue Angel, which transformed her into an international movie star.
