What scams are currently happening on WhatsApp and how you can avoid them
A mum is warning other parents to be careful after she says she almost fell victim to a scam on WhatsApp, where criminals send a code to join a group and arrange a Christmas party, but really it's a con to transfer data between your phone, and fraudsters. Investigative journalist Hayley Hassall takes a look at some of the other WhatsApp scams doing the rounds right now, and takes a look at the settings that could help protect your data.
We spoke to WhatsApp and it told us it wants to make the messaging platform the safest place for communication, and says this is why it protects personal conversations with end-to-end encryption. It does add though, that just like regular text messages and calls, anyone who has your phone number may attempt to contact you.
