Grace Dieu Prioryβs link with William Wordsworth
Grace Dieu Priory was used as a private house after the dissolution of the monasteries.
Grace Dieu Priory was an independent Augustinian priory near Thringstone in Leicestershire, founded around 1235 by wealthy heiress Roseia de Verdon.
After its dissolution by Henry VIII in 1538 the priory was passed through various owners and families and used as a private house.
By the 19th century its buildings were in ruins, and around this time Grace Dieu was visited by William Wordsworth, one of Englandβs most famous romantic poets, who was staying at nearby Coleorton.
Ben Jackson visited Grace Dieu which is said to still be haunted by a mysterious βWhite Ladyβ apparition around its ruins.
