The ‘lost’ beacon on Beacon Hill

Beacon Hill is the home of an ancient beacon.

Beacon Hill is one of Leicestershire’s popular country parks and is one of many beacon hills across the UK. Much of the park is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

It’s also the second highest point in Leicestershire – on a clear day Belvoir Castle can be seen, as well as the hills in the Peak District.

But, what you may not know, is that there is an actual ancient beacon up there too.

Ben Jackson explores the site with historian Peter Liddle.
