'I was held hostage for eight hours'

Rhianon Bragg on why she's speaking out ahead of her ex-boyfriends release from prison.

⚠️ Warning: Some viewers may find the content of this post distressing

Rhianon Bragg was stalked and threatened by her ex-boyfriend, Gareth Wyn Jones, after she ended their relationship in 2019. He was arrested for harassment and menacing behaviour, but no further action was taken.

Just months later, he returned to her house in rural North Wales and held her at gunpoint for eight hours. She managed to get away after he allowed her to attend a doctor’s appointment.

He was given an extended determinate sentence of four-and-a-half years in prison with an extended licence period of five years for the crimes of stalking, false imprisonment, making threats to kill and possession of a firearm.

Now, he’s set to be automatically released from prison, despite a Parole Board panel finding in November last year that it would not be safe to do so.

Rhianon told Emma Barnett on ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Radio 4's Woman's Hour why she's speaking out ahead of his release.

You can listen to the full interview on ΒιΆΉΤΌΕΔ Sounds – it’s the Woman’s Hour episode from 6 February.
