‘The things that women get criticised for are often what men get praise for’

Grace Ackroyd tells Emma Barnett about trying to have another baby aged 46.

Have you decided to have more children later in life?

From Kourtney Kardashian to Sienna Miller, there have recently been some very public examples of women who had children earlier on in life, and then, after meeting someone new, decide to have children again in their 40s.

Journalist Grace Ackroyd joined Emma Barnett on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Radio 4's Woman's Hour to share her experience of trying to have another baby aged 46.

Already a mother to three, her and her partner (who she’s been dating for the past five years), decided to have a baby and they’re currently in the process of doing so via an egg donor.

Grace spoke about some of the responses she received after writing about her experience in The Times, and the negative reaction women can face for having children later in life.

We also heard from choreographer and former Strictly Come Dancing judge Dame Arlene Phillips, who had her second daughter when she was 47 years old.

You can listen to the full discussion on Â鶹ԼÅÄ Sounds – it’s the Woman’s Hour episode from 15 January.
