The Skewer: Three Twisted Years
Jon Holmesβs multi award-winning Radio 4 satire moves across to the screen for the first time and twists round for a retrospective look at the last three years.
After three years on air and after winning Gold for Best Comedy at the Radio Academy Aria Awards three years running, Jon Holmesβs satirical Radio 4 comedy The Skewer twists its way onto the screen for the first time.
As Series 10 arrives on Radio 4, The Skewer: Three Twisted Years is an experimental short film that revisits some of the key political and news moments from the last three years with a unique visual interpretation of the showβs critically acclaimed sharp, nightmarish style.
"A surreal flow of snippets - news and views, music and memories - melded into a huge orchestral piece of compelling originality. The Skewer is satire at its cleverest, both biting and beautiful. If you could listen to a Francis Bacon painting, this is what it would sound like.β
βA breathtaking, stop-what-youβre-doing show thatβs equal parts hilarious and nightmarish, contemporaneous and timeless. A truly unique and interesting take on audio storytelling.β
βThe Skewer is the sound the abyss makes as it stares back at you through your ears.β
βHaunting, awe-inspiring, jaw-on-the-floor stuff. A drifting, shifting, dizzying experimental powerhouse.β
βAn eerily beautiful, discombobulating mosaic of political spinβ
βBeautifully and weirdly remixes clips from the news to create remarkable montage of whatβs happening in the world. Itβs a twisted history lesson that you can dance to and will make you feel like youβre on drugs even if you arenβt.β
