The start of the long-awaited public inquiry into one of Scotland’s most notorious deaths in police custody.

Sheku Bayoh was involved in a confrontation with police in May 2015. He was restrained by several officers, who used pepper spray, batons and handcuffs. Shortly thereafter he became unresponsive and was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In the days, weeks and years following Sheku’s death, his family have never been satisfied with the police’s account of what happened. Now it’s up to Aamer Anwar and his team to uncover the truth and to guide Sheku’s family on their path to justice. Why did Sheku die, and what part did race play in his death?

With unique access to Aamer’s law firm, this series takes viewers into the heart of some of the country’s most important cases. Three huge public inquiries will push his team to its limits and, with the ever-increasing workload, Aamer has to take on a new trainee - a dream opportunity for a young lawyer, fresh from university.
