'The people who open up their houses are so brave'

Art House Leicester returns to the city.

Art House Leicester offers a unique opportunity to view and purchase art and meet the artists who have created it, all within the homes and gardens of local residents.

This weekend 9 homes across Clarendon Park in Leicester will open up, for free, to show paintings, ceramics, arts and crafts of people living in the area. One home will even be offering live music and cake.

Art House Leicester started in 2008, when Hannah Devine-Wright went round to her neighbour, Katarzyna Klein to buy a couple of her paintings for gifts. Amazed by the amount of work that Katarzyna had stashed away in boxes, she suggested that she should open her house and try to sell some.

One thing led to another and the first Art House weekend took place with 3 houses and 8 local artists taking part. Something about the event struck a chord with the public and the annual event has gone from strength to strength.

Reporter Helen McCarthy has signed up her home to take part in the scheme this time around and has been talking to the Art House team as they were setting up.
