The Art of Chinese Brush Painting

Edinburgh-based Chinese brush painter Chi Zhang exploits the rich effects created by the interaction of brush, ink, water and paper to depict Edinburgh landmark Arthur’s Seat.

Chi Zhang is Scotland’s leading Chinese calligrapher and painter. In his Chinese brush paintings of the Scottish landscape, he represents the essence of his surroundings rather than aiming for a naturalistic depiction. Using traditional Chinese materials and techniques, Chi exploits the rich effects created by the interaction of brush, ink, water and paper to depict local landmark Arthur’s Seat in the city of Edinburgh, where he lives and works.
